Q: What is WoPeD?

A:  WoPeD stands for Workflow Petrinet Designer and is a Java-based open source software to model, analyze and simulate Petri nets. Supported net classes are regular place/transition nets (PT nets) and workflow nets (WF nets).

Q: Who develops WoPeD?

A:  WoPeD has been developed since 2003 by students and faculty members of the Baden Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW) Karlsruhe. More than 100 contributors have created WoPeD in programming projects, as part of their academic work or in their leisure time. WoPeD is given to the community free of charge under the LGPL open source license.

A:  WoPeD is aimed to be mainly an academic software. It is used as a practical tool in hundreds of universities in order to apply theoretical concepts of Petri nets and business process modeling in lectures and exercises. WoPeD is also suitable for researchers to visualize research results or to enrich publications with examples or case studies.

A:  WoPeD is hosted on GitHub, a well-known distribution platform for open source products. You can download the newest version directly from there.

Q: Which platforms does WoPeD run on?

A:  WoPeD is a Java program and should run on every platform supported by Java. It has been verified that WoPeD runs on the most common platforms Windows, MacOS and Linux. User-friendly installer packages for these three platforms are provided.
