Installing WoPeD

Q: Which Java version is needed to install WoPeD?

A: On all supported platforms, WoPeD itself and also the WoPeD installer (also a Java program, at least on Windows and Linux) requires Java 6 or higher.

Q: How do I install WoPeD on Windows?

A: Download the Windows installer ZIP file from the WoPeD download site. Unzip it to an arbitrary folder. Run the contained executable (which is an IZPack installer script containing all necessary files) and follow the instructions. At the end, WoPeD will start automatically. For later use, run WoPeD by double-clicking on the file WoPeD.exe located in the installation folder. It might be useful to associate all files with PNML type to WoPeD in order to launch WoPeD automatically whenever clicking on the PNML file icon.

Q: How do I install WoPeD on Linux?

A: Download the Linux installer TGZ file from the WoPeD download site. Open a console shell window in this folder. Untar and uncompress the file using the “tar” utility. Run the contained executable (which is an IZPack installer script containing all necessary files) from the shell and follow the instructions. At the end, WoPeD will start automatically. For later use, run WoPeD by double-clicking on the executable WoPeD which is located in the installation folder. It might be useful to associate all files with PNML type to WoPeD as standard application in order to launch WoPeD automatically whenever clicking on a PNML file icon.

Q: How do I install WoPeD on MacOS?

A: Download the DMG image file from the WoPeD download site. Double click on it in order to mount the image. Run the contained PKG file (which is a MacOS package maker file containing all necessary files) and follow the instructions. At the end, WoPeD will start automatically. For later use, WoPeD can be launched from your Application folder. WoPeD will already be registered as standard application for PNML files, i. e. by clicking on any PNML file icon WoPeD will be launched with this file openen in an editor window.

Q: How do I install WoPeD on other platforms than Windows, Linux, or MacOS?

A: Currently, there is no direct support for other platforms. However, WoPeD will generally run on every platform supported by Java. The best way is to follow the instructions for getting the source code and create a native WoPeD binary on your own.

Q: Does installation of WoPeD require admin rights?

A: No. WoPeD can be installed in any folder you have write access to. So even without admin rights, it should always be possible to use any writable folder as installation target. WoPeD does not put any information into Windows Registry or other system-wide databases.

Q: How do I uninstall WoPeD?

A: On Windows and Linux, simply navigate to the WoPeD installation folder. In subfolder “Uninstaller” there is a Java program “uninstaller.jar”. Launch it in order to remove WoPeD from your computer. On MacOS, simply move the WoPeD entry in the user’s Applications folder to the trash bin.
